Pink Petrified Wood – Tumbled Stone

Petrified Wood is actually fossilised ancient wood! Petrified wood has been traced back to being anywhere from a few thousand years (this is how long the actual process takes to occur) to the vast majority of it being 50-500 million years old ♥ Isn’t that just completely amazing! 🙂

This ancient wood forms due to fallen logs being buried by mineral rich wet earth such as volcanic ashes, which contained high levels of silica. This mineral rich sediment massively slows down and eventually stops the decaying process, due to a lack of oxygen. Over time, the minerals replaced the cells organic matter and structure in the wood turning it to stone ♥ This is very simplified breakdown of petrification 🙂
