The Importance of Buying Ethically Sourced Crystals

Ensuring Positive Energy, Sustainable Practice & Maintaining our Environment!

Wanting to source crystals ‘the right way’ (as it should be…) is why I started my business in the first place, I have used and added crystal babies to my collection since the age of 5/6, Covid & lockdown caused the spiritual industry to explode and grow massively, and I’m afraid it wasn’t always in the best way. I’m writing this to bring attention and awareness to the bad practices I see many sellers and other shops clearly adhering too, which has become more and more apparent to me whilst I’m building my own business. Put simply you cannot just buy crystals from just any source without prior research, and investigation. “But why is it important” you ask?

“Well, I just cleanse them first or after buying”, you say…? NO, It’s mega important and if you collect, sell or energetically use crystals, to fully know how & where they’re coming from here’s the reason why… It’s going to be a long read so here we go… 😊 ♥

Why do people like Crystals?

For Centuries crystals have been cherished for their beauty and magical healing properties. From ancient civilisations to modern-day wellness enthusiasts, these natural minerals are believed to offer a variety of benefits, including spiritual healing, emotional balance, and physical wellness. Ever since Covid their popularity has massively soared, and in my opinion so too has the importance of sourcing these crystals as ethically and thoughtfully as possible. Making sure that the crystals we purchase are sourced responsibly is massively important for several reasons, including environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and the maintenance of the crystals’ positive energy.

Environmental Sustainability

The process of extraction and mining can have significant environmental impacts. Buying from unregulated mining practices can lead to habitat destruction, deforestation, soil erosion, and water pollution. This can also lead to harming local ecosystems and contribute to climate change. By only purchasing crystals from sources that prioritise sustainable mining practices, we can help mitigate and minimise negative effects.

Minimising Ecological Footprints

What are sustainable mining practices? – These aim to reduce the ecological footprint of crystal extraction. This includes measures such as responsible land management, reforestation efforts, and the use of eco-friendly extraction techniques. By supporting companies that stick to these practices, we can help to make sure that the beauty of the natural world is preserved for future generations to come ♥

Many of the mineral and crystal-rich regions are home to diverse ecosystems that are vulnerable to the impacts of mining. Ethical sourcing includes efforts to protect these ecosystems and the species that live in them. This involves conducting environmental impact assessments, creating wildlife corridors where necessary, and putting in place conservation programs. By choosing ethically sourced crystals, we contribute to the protection of biodiversity and the preservation of the natural habitats.

Social Responsibility

People often forget that the ethical sourcing of crystals should also extend to the treatment of the people involved in their mining, extraction and processing. In many parts of the world, mining occurs in regions with limited labour regulations, leading to exploitative working conditions, child labour, and awful wages. It is our responsibility to ensure that crystals we source are being mined by companies and individuals that give and provide fair labour practices! This includes ensuring safe working conditions, providing fair wages, and prohibiting any child labour. By only supporting these companies, we can massively help improve the livelihoods of miners and their communities.

Responsible mining companies often invest in the communities where they operate. This can include building schools, healthcare facilities, and infrastructure, as well as implementing programs that support local economic development. By only purchasing crystals you know are sourced 100% mindfully, we can contribute to the social and economic well-being of mining communities.

Many countries such as China and Indonesia, are unfortunately contributing to the problem of overmining, and using unethical practices to purchase large amounts of crystals and different minerals. These crystals are then shipped over to large industrial factories – often altered, or machine carved, and shipped out to the masses. By purchasing crystals from these factories, you are supporting the unethical practices, and often contributing to poor mining practice, and ultimately the awful conditions for many of the miners.

Maintaining Positive Energy

For many people, crystals are more than just beautiful objects we can collect or wear as jewellery; they are believed to possess unique energies that can influence our well-being. Through their unique and stable vibrations. The way in which crystals are sourced can impact the purity and positivity of these energies!

What do you mean “Positive Energies”?

Crystals that are extracted through exploitative or environmentally harmful practices may carry negative energies associated with these actions. By choosing to source crystals through ethical means they are more likely to carry positive energies that align with the principles of respect, sustainability, and compassion. By choosing ethically sourced crystals, we make sure that the energies they bring into our lives are pure and positive.

The practice of using and working with crystals involves setting intentions and channelling energy. Knowing that a crystal has been sourced mindfully can enhance the user’s connection to the crystal and the intentions set forth are positive. This mindful approach gives a deeper appreciation for the crystal’s journey from Mother Earth to the crystal guardian’s hands, in my mind this reinforces the need for mindful and correct sourcing 😊

Final Thoughts…?

My final say to the many “crystal shops” just take a look in the mirror, if you can’t say it is 100% mined in the most mindful way to protect the miners, their communities and our Mother Earth, why do you have order them in the first place, you should be raising awareness to these issues not contributing to them…

It is beyond important to source and buying crystals that are sourced in the right way! It cannot be overstated or overlooked. From mitigating environmental impacts and protecting biodiversity to ensuring fair labour practices and maintaining the purity of the crystals’ energies, the benefits of responsible sourcing are huge. We all have the power to make choices that support sustainable and ethical practices in the crystal industry. By doing so, we not only contribute to the well-being of our Mother Earth, and her people but also to the crystals we cherish. Which continue to bring positive energy and beauty into our lives.
